Our research team consists of three members, from left to right: Rosa, Çiğdem, Denise. Below you can read more about what exactly they do within the project and who is on the advisory board.

Çiğdem Bozdağ

Principal Investigator

Dr. Çiğdem Bozdağ is associate professor at the Research Centre for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen. She is the principal investigator of this project and focuses on the context of Education. Previously, Dr. Bozdağ held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship at the Faculty of Education of the University of Bremen, where she led the INCLUDED project (2019-2023). She was also an associate professor and head of the Department of New Media at Kadir Has University and was part of the Mercator-IPC Fellowship Programme (2013-2014) at Sabanci University’s Istanbul Policy Center. Dr. Bozdağ completed her PhD in communication and Media Studies in January 2013 at the University of Bremen. Bozdağ’s research interests include media and migration, digital media use, digital literacy, inter – and transcultural communication, digital inclusion, and media education in schools.

Dr. Denise Mensonides conducts research on digital inclusion in culturally diverse societies, with a particular focus on government policy and public initiatives in the Netherlands. Her research within DigiMig explores how policymakers position and engage migrant communities in the development of digital inclusion policies. By combining policy analyses with interviews with experts, Denise investigates which factors are decisive for policy public initiatives and provides insights into how these can be designed more inclusively.

Denise Mensonides

Postdoctoral Researcher

Rosa Dijkstra

PhD Researcher

Rosa Dijkstra researches digital inclusion within families with a migration history in the Netherlands, with a focus on Turkish-Dutch and Moroccan-Dutch families in Groningen and Rotterdam. Her research focuses on how different generations within families deal with digital media, looking at social and cultural factors. Rosa studies how children (8-12 years old) and their parents use digital technologies, communicate and participate in online communities. She uses qualitative ethnographic methods, such as interviews and observations.
