Exploring Digital Inclusion in Culturally Diverse Contexts: Reflections from Denise’s visit to Melbourne

In May 2025, Denise, the postdoctoral researcher on the project, had the opportunity to engage with a range of scholars exploring the intersections of (digital) media practices, digital inclusion, migration, and diversity. In this blogpost, she highlights the rich diversity of the projects and reflects on the complex ways in which technology, migration, identity, and inclusion are interwoven within the Australian context. She concludes the blog by sharing her overarching observations.

ECREA 2025 – Conference in Tallinn 

Halfway through September our Digimig research team traveled to Tallinn in Estonia, for the conference of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), sections Diaspora, Migration and the Media – International and Intercultural Communication. with the theme “Beyond Borders: Creative Methods and Reflexive Approaches to Migration, Media, and Intercultural Dialogue”. The conference offered an inspiring stage to share results from our project for the first time.

Help mijn kind wil op TikTok! – Parenting in a digital age

How do you teach your child to interact with others in a group chat? What if your child is allowed to game much longer at a friend’s house than at home? How do you help your child become resilient against online dangers like hacking and phishing? In other words: how do you best support your child in taking their first steps into the digital world? These are some of the questions that Denise Mensonides, together with Peter Nikken and Mandy Oude Veldhuis-Talhout discussed in a panel organized by the Jantina Tammes School at the Forum Groningen on February 4th 2025. 

Webinar at Media Education Lab

On 15. January 2024, Annamária Neag and Çiğdem Bozdağ presented their co-authored paper on participatory action research for knowledge production with marginalized communities (co-authored with Koen Leurs and Sanne Sprenger). The webinar took place in the Media Education Lab´s webinar series on ‘Inequalities and Media Education’ (IME) and can be viewed online.

ReDICo Encounters – Presentation and Dialogue

Together with Daniel Silva, Çiğdem Bozdağ participated in the online dialogue series ReDICo Encounters. In the dialogue session, both researchers discussed their individual researches focusing on Germany and Brazil and the engaged in a dialogue about the role of digital practices in the lives of marginalised young people addressing questions related to social justice. The talks and the discussion can be viewed online.
